I have been living and working in Oklahoma as an independent illustrator since 2016, when I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Studio Art. I am a member of a local collective here called “Art Group,” and my work has been exhibited at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the IAO Art Gallery, and The Art Hall; as well as several non-traditional venues including the Bigfoot Creative print shop, the offices of Skyline Ink illustrators, and Equity Brewing.
My work has always been an exploration of the human experience, the discovery of the “self,” and the way people interact with one another and their environments. It’s heavily inspired by the concept of nostalgia and “anemoia,” or “nostalgia for a time and place that never existed” (a term coined by author John Koenig.)
Most of my work is created traditionally by hand, using ink and watercolor paint on paper, and is stylistically influenced by storytelling mediums, such as comics, cartoons, and storybooks.
As of 2020, my career has been largely centered on creating and self-publishing tarot and oracle decks, having finished my first deck The Ink Witch Tarot that year. Since then, I have gone on to self-publish several other similar projects. I believe that tarot and oracle cards are a useful tool for anyone who wishes to use them, as they work through popular symbols and evoke insights and messages that connect us with a universal human experience. Ultimately, the goal of my artwork has always been to make an audience feel connected and related to. Using symbolism and narrative, my intention is that someone viewing my artwork, or using a tarot deck I’ve created, will feel a close emotional connection to the content and how it relates to the personal joys and trials of their life. In turn I hope they recognize that they are not alone in those experiences and struggles.
