Much of my art relies on excessive embellishment and decoration to represent a level of respect to the content and subject matter through the use of aesthetic design, something like gilding an important relic in gold. I wanted to practice achieving that effect of “design as admiration” in a more minimalist way.
Inspired by the simple but effective compositions and mindful quality of ikebana flower arrangements, I decided to do this study of flower designs.
It’s something I’d like to explore more in the future, in larger pieces and sets for public display.
